I have a '99 Ford Ranger with the 2.5L 4cyl that I am going to replace the engine in.
Has anyone used !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
I am sure these are locators and not actual salvage yards with used engines, but lowmileage offers a 5 year/unlimited mileage warranty and I just wanted to know if anyone has dealt with any of these companies for a used engine.
Edit: also have a Pantera

I have to think a warranty on a used motor is pretty sketchy. If they replace certain parts of the motor instead of just the whole thing if it breaks then it is probably a good bet.
Never dealt with one, but interested how it goes.

Since it is a locator(like 95% sure it is) then they would probably just send it back to the yard they got it from and get another one from same yard or diff yard - I'm totally guessing here.

That could be a huge pain if you get it all installed and then something is wrong and you have to take it out and get another one.

As someone looking to do an engine swap in the near future I am very interested as well.

I would agree, but the only thing you really have to hook up to test it is Alternator, A/C compressor, serpentine belt, coolant hoses, all wiring, exhaust/intake, change fluids and motor mounts... which is actually more than I was thinking lol. The money you are saving vs buying something that is rebuilt is like 1.5x as much and I'm not planning on keeping it more than a year, so as long as it runs for like 8 months I'll be happy.

I bet it will work fine, and a great option for the price.

I hope so, I just wanted to know if anyone had a preference for one of these companies vs another. Or even if someone had another option or company.

I remember my dad got a motor from a scrap yard for our Buick LeSabre. We put the motor in ourselves and it had a hell of knock so we took it out, and the scrap yard guy got us another one from another city. Some people are just really good about it.

I would find an engine on craigslist if it were me.

Wanted to update you. I bought the engine off of a 100% feedback, no hassle 60 day return policy vendor on Ebay.
It should arrive between now and Mon 9/15.
I weighed my options.
- $1000 for an engine that someone 'located' for me. - If I have issues I have to deal with a locator service that did not even answer the phone when I called them and possibly the place where the engine came from.. - lowmileageparts.com
- $2150 for reman'd engine with warranty. - If I had planned on keeping this vehicle for very long I probably would have just splurged and got this. This price also includes a $325 core charge, so the actual price is about 1850. - engineguy.com
- $575 for used engine that i 'located' myself on Ebay. If I have issues I can get my money back through ebay. I can also threaten to ruin his 100% feedback rating if he wouldn't work with me to resolve the issue. Only real fears I have here(same as 1st option) is that the engine for whatever reason doesn't run, I have to pay my mechanic to uninstall/reinstall another engine or the engine stops short of the 7 months I need it to get me through, so I can pay some stuff off and buy a new car for my wife.
I could probably have swapped out the engine myself pretty easily, there is quite a bit of room in the engine compartment, but I don't have the time to do it right now and it needs to get done so that I can do some work on my F250 which my wife is driving now. It needs exhaust manifolds replaced(some bolts need to be worked out and some need to be drilled out), a new muffler, tie rods and brakes.

Thanks for the update - guess I'll probably go the reman route.

The engineguy.com site seems pretty comparable if not cheaper than other rebuilt sites. And it appears they do it pretty thoroughly. If I had gone with a rebuilt/reman engine I probably would have went through them.
